Industry Trend Analysis - CSP Tender Another Boost For Solar Expansion - OCT 2017
BMI View: The successful tendering of the CSP fourth phase of the Muhammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar farm in Dubai adds to a series of positive developments in the UAE solar sector over 2017, and cements our upbeat outlook for the sector. We expect CSP aspirations to expand as Dubai will increasingly look to bolster storage capacity in the solar sector over the coming years.
On September 16, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that it had awarded the development of 700MW of concentrating solar power (CSP) capacity to a consortium comprising Shanghai Electric and Acwa Power. As the fourth phase of the Muhammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MbRAM) solar farm, the successful tendering of the project adds to a series of positive developments in the UAE solar sector over 2017:
March: Abu Dhabi awarded 1,177MW in its Sweihan photovoltaic (PV) solar tender at a price of 24.2/MWh.
